Foundation Commerce and Arts

The course prepares students for undergraduate study in Arts, Commerce and Social Sciences.
There are two streams offered in the Foundation Commerce & Arts course. As well as several units that are common to all foundation courses, students will study units relevant to their chosen stream.
Commerce: Commerce students will study units in commerce mathematics, economics and accounting.
Media Studies: Media students will study units in media & communication, journalism, screen production and visual culture.
The Private Higher Educational Act 1996 (Act 555) provides that every PHEI shall teach the following compulsory subjects: Malaysian Studies, Islamic Studies for students professing the Islamic religion and Moral Education for non-Muslim students.
All Malaysian students are required to attend classes and pass these compulsory subjects as a prerequisite to the award of a certificate, diploma or degree. The classes are optional for non-Malaysian students.

Students who pass all subjects in Foundation Commerce and are admitted to one of three courses offered at the Curtin Sarawak Campus:
- Bachelor of Business Administration
- Bachelor of Commerce (Finance and Marketing, Accounting and Finance, Marketing and Management, Marketing and Electronic Commerce, Tourism Management and Marketing, Accounting and Information Systems, Accounting and Marketing, Finance and Management, Finance and Electronic Commerce, Public Relations and Management, Marketing and Public Relations)
- Bachelor of Arts (Mass Communication)

Students who obtain satisfactory results are also eligible for admission to the undergraduate courses listed above, as well as a wide-range of other degrees such as Psychology, Teaching, Art and Design, and Media Studies at Curtin Bentley Campus, in Perth, Western Australia.
